Light LearningThe short version. The app has no account, makes no network requests carrying anything about a child, and stores everything on the device. There is no personal data to disclose, sell, share or lose, because none is ever collected.
What is collected
Nothing. Specifically, and to be checkable rather than reassuring:
- No account and no sign-in. No email address, no phone number, no password.
- No analytics. No third-party analytics library is in the app at all.
- No advertising and no advertising identifier.
- No location, no contacts, no camera, no microphone.
- No third-party trackers or software development kits that transmit data.
- No purchases by a child. The only mention of price is behind a parental gate.
What is stored, and where
Progress, answers, writing, drawings, rewards, the chosen grade and curriculum, and the name typed for a certificate. All of it is stored on the device itself in the app's own storage. Deleting the app deletes all of it. None of it is backed up to us because there is nowhere to back it up to.
COPPA
The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act governs the collection of personal information from children under 13 in the United States. Light Learning collects no personal information from anybody, of any age, so there is nothing for which verifiable parental consent would be required. No information is disclosed to any third party, because none exists.
GDPR and GDPR-K
Under the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation, we are not a data controller in respect of any child using the app, as no personal data is processed by us. The rights of access, rectification, erasure and portability are satisfied on the device: the data is the family's, held on their own hardware, and removing the app removes it.
Canada
TRI1 Space Technologies Inc. is a Canadian company. PIPEDA applies to organisations that collect, use or disclose personal information in the course of commercial activities. We do none of the three in respect of app users.
Parental gate
Anything that leaves the child's part of the app, which means the settings page, the purchase screen and any external link, sits behind a gate a young child cannot pass.
Advertising and marketing to children
There is none. Nothing in the app promotes anything to a child, including our own subscription.
If this ever changes
If a feature is ever added that genuinely needs a server, this page will say so before that feature ships, and it will say what changed and why.
